Service Teams have been an important part of Montaña de Luz for the last 15 years. In the early years teams renovated the buildings and infrastructure to welcome the first children who came to die of AIDS. Thanks to the availability of anti-retroviral medication we transitioned from a hospice to a home for children living or affected by HIV. Service Teams have not only provided needed maintenance but also enriched the lives of the children with play, art, music and most of all love.
As we move forward with service team leadership we have been fortunate to find Nina Rodriguez, founder of Corazones Unidos Para Honduras a non-profit that leads service teams in Honduras. Nina attended high school in Scotia, New York and college in California where she obtained a degree in Human and Public Relations. Nina has worked for several non-profits in the Nuevo Esperanza community. She was the Director of Child Sponsorships at Sociedad Amigos de los Niños, Director of Operations for Hope for Honduran Children and Coordinator of Medical Brigades for Global Brigades.
She began her non-profit leading service teams for Hearts in Education Teacher Out Reach, Global Brigades, MD Junior, Lancaster Presbyterian Church and Sociedad de Los Niños. Nina has led over 200 service/mission teams in her career and when asked what is most important for her in the experience she says that teams understand they are making a difference. Nina is well known by the staff and children at Montaña de Luz as she has been taking groups to tour MdL for many years.
Nina will be leading teams in Honduras and the recruitment and orientation of teams will be done with our Ohio office staff.
Our priority is for the safety of our teams and for the experience to be meaningful and wonderful. We look forward to having you visit the mountain of light!
